The main objective of the Seniors Climate Action (SCA) project was to empower older generations to actively engage with climate change through creative, educational, and digital means. We aimed to address the exclusion of seniors from climate debates and digital environments by creating accessible opportunities for them to participate, learn, and share their perspectives. Building on our previous experience in art and ecology, we wanted to introduce innovative, interdisciplinary methods that connect environmental topics with artistic expression and cultural practice. Another objective was to foster intergenerational and creative communication, enabling younger and older participants to learn from one another and develop new forms of cooperation. We also wanted to strengthen climate and cultural education by creating activities in which seniors could take leadership roles as artists, learners, and communicators. Finally, we aimed to share this specific expertise with European experts, inspiring new approaches to inclusive climate action and sustainable education across borders.
We applied for the Seniors Climate Action (SCA) project as a challenge to respond to the urgent need for climate awareness and digital inclusion among older generations. Seniors are often overlooked in climate debates and digital education, yet they hold valuable life experience, creativity, and social influence. Drawing on our previous experience in art and ecology, we identified a “white gap” where seniors were missing as active voices in cultural and environmental dialogue. Our motivation was not only to fill this gap, but also to share such expertise in this specific area with experts across Europe, contributing to the exchange of innovative practices. At the same time, we wanted to explore new ways of finding solutions through interdisciplinary art, creative communication, and multigenerational dialogue. The project responded by empowering seniors through artistic and educational activities linking climate change with cultural expression. By combining intergenerational learning, digital tools, and creative workshops, the partnership created space for seniors to become visible agents of change and to connect art, environment, and senior participation in an innovative European response.
