The Republic of Turkey has designated 2022 as the Disaster Exercise Year. The Ministry of Interior and AFAD aim to put into practice the trainings given throughout our country in 2021 and to turn this into a disaster reflex. Within the scope of the project named "Young People in Disaster Preparedness and Rescue Efforts", we implemented our project between 1-9 June 2023 in order to create disaster awareness in young people, to support young people to gain awareness about disaster preparedness and to contribute to young people to gain basic competence in search and rescue efforts. In particular, by implementing our project, we tried to contribute to our participants and target group to have knowledge about disasters, recognize the risks related to disasters, develop a sense of responsibility, reinforce their decision-making skills, gain problem-solving skills, raise awareness about healthy communication, acquire the ability to manage crisis situations and improve their social skills. In addition, we carried out our project to raise social awareness about the damages caused by disasters, draw attention to the causes of disasters, and contribute to changing the attitudes and perspectives of the society. In addition to these, with our project, we have contributed to raising awareness of our participants and target group about the European Union Erasmus+ program, learning new information, and developing a culture of active citizenship, solidarity and tolerance among European youth. In our project, we helped our participants with different cultural values to develop intercultural dialogue skills, to gain self-confidence in communicating in English, gain the ability to learn through teamwork and overcome their reservations about establishing social dialogue. Furthermore, through our project activities, we helped our participants and target group to gain sensitivity to social problems, develop awareness about their involvement in active life, gain awareness about cooperative learning and make efforts to be anti-racist. As a result, by implementing our project, we have achieved our goals of bringing together youth volunteering in disaster preparedness and disaster preparedness among young people through activities using non-formal education methods, bringing together young people from different institutions and countries to exchange ideas on Youth in Disaster Preparedness and Rescue Efforts, ensuring the personal development of youth workers through active social participation in preventing substance abuse among young people and ensuring the integration of vulnerable young people into society.
