Through the Productivity4.0 project, we wanted to achieve several key objectives. Our primary goal was to develop innovative and digital skills in vocational education and training (VET) by integrating lean manufacturing and digital transformation into the curriculum. By creating open-access digital training materials, we aimed to enhance digital learning and teaching, making VET more attractive and effective. We also aimed to promote green production by reducing waste, increasing efficiency, and lowering the carbon footprint in the manufacturing sector. The project also intended to align VET with Industry 4.0 requirements, enabling graduates to be better prepared for digitalised and sustainable industrial environments. Finally, we wanted to contribute to the globalisation of vocational training by developing the training content in a common language, making it accessible to a wider audience across Europe.
We applied for this project to enhance the adoption of digital transformation and lean production practices in the industry. As production demands had increased, so had energy and material consumption, making resource efficiency and waste reduction more critical. Our aim was to bridge the gap between industry and vocational education by developing innovative training on lean production and digital technologies. Field research revealed that companies had low awareness of digital production tools, highlighting the need for interactive digital training materials. Through this project, we addressed the need to introduce smart production systems, optimize resource usage, and reduce carbon footprints. By improving industrial productivity and fostering sustainable manufacturing, we aimed to prepare students and workers for the Industry 4.0 era, ensuring they gained essential digital and green skills for the evolving workforce.
