The eljub E-Book Week 2023 continued a European project that has been organized annually since 2013 and, since 2018, has also been dedicated to the integration of refugees who take part in an adventure week with young people from different European countries. The eljub E-Book Week 2023 offered young people from Albania, Bulgaria, Germany, Austria, Poland, Romania, the Czech Republic and Hungary the opportunity to talk about working with writing and media (video and film or new AI and ChatGPT). To get to know or explore common things in Europe. What was noted was the great joy of being able to be together in international groups, but also that there were longer start-up times for meetings and international exchange; The aftereffects in social behavior of the Corona lockdowns were an issue for many, as was stress, so in addition to the European sense of belonging among the young people, special attention was paid to identifying the concerns of individuals in individual and group discussions and giving them the opportunity to withdraw and clarify things of conflicts. It was more important than before to weigh up what was important for the group experience and result orientation, and what the individual needed in terms of psychological support. The focus was on intercultural exchange and a Europe experienced together. At the same time, the eljub E-Book 2023 promoted awareness of the possibilities of communicating in digital and audiovisual media and, as a new challenge, the use of writing and film tools with artificial intelligence. The project week helped the young people to become active in their own environment: in the eljub e-book week they gained positive experiences with lived integration and learned in a playful way how to use media consciously and critically. The young people were accompanied by experts from Literaturhaus Europa and the TV community OKTO in critically dealing with our new, digital world of knowledge, reading and communication and supported in sustainable networking. They received creative learning opportunities relating to current journalistic, intellectual and political life in Europe. The focus was clearly on what connects. Respectful, attentive interaction with one another was lived and learned in practice, as were the basic social values of Europe (freedom, democracy, respect for human rights, the rule of law, tolerance). The aspect of integration of young people with refugee and migrant backgrounds living in Austria was strengthened through the first-time cooperation with the ORF project “Sag's Multi”. The aspects of diversity and exchange about cultural norms became the focus of discussions and social interactions even more than in previous years.
