Fighting discrimination, social exclusion, creating socially inclusive societies are one of the key European priorities stated in strategic document Europe 2030 and reflected in various European Programmes, including Erasmus+.In the process of creating a socially inclusive society, fighting hate speech is essential because hate speech had been strongly rooted in the society. In order to support the personal and professional development of young people and their active participation, involvement in decision-making processes is considered essential to create a hate-free society. Fighting hate speech, discrimination, and social exclusion had also been priorities for the partner organizations of this project. The idea for the youth exchange 'European Human Library' had originated from young people who had been involved in local activities of the partners. They had expressed a strong need and interest in a project that would provide them with an opportunity to learn more about hate speech, discrimination, and social exclusion. Furthermore, they sought a project that would offer them a chance to become familiar with new tools and practices that they could use to address these issues. Discussions at the level of partner organizations, involving young people, and online discussions among the partners had led to the decision to realize a youth exchange that would give young people an opportunity to strengthen their knowledge on social exclusion, discrimination, and hate speech. Additionally, it would provide them with a chance to learn about 'human libraries' – a method of addressing stereotypes, prejudices, and discrimination through direct interaction between visitors and 'living books' representing groups that had been stereotyped, discriminated against, and socially excluded. Furthermore, during the exchange, participants had the opportunity to prepare and carry out a 'small' human library-based event. They had been encouraged to share their experiences with their organizations and peers. Objectives of youth exchange ‘European Human Library’: a) To develop participant’s competencies in the area of human rights education and the methodology of human libraries; b) to raise participant’s knowledge on the process of realization of human library as a way of addressing stereotypes, prejudices and fighting discrimination; c) to empower the participants to contribute to creating socially inclusive society through the process of organizing ‘human library’ during the youth exchange; d) to develop participants competences such as teamwork, leadership, communication, presentation and to contribute to their personal and professional development; e) to raise intercultural competencies of the participants by giving them an opportunity to interact and work with young people coming from different European countries and also local community from the hosting country; f) to raise knowledge of the participants about Erasmus + Programme and its Key Action 1 and to encourage the participants to take active part in the Programme. g) to support creating network and partnerships between participating organizations, exchange of good practices among participating countries related to human rights education, social inclusion.
