Objectives

By implementing the project, we wanted to establish a motivating and diverse environment for idealistic young people to inspire them and foster a deeper understanding of inequalities. It was our goal to create a community with a diversity of nationalities, social backgrounds, and identities. Being exposed to different realities of life is essential to support the personal growth of participants. In order to support young change-makers in the implementation of sustainable and inclusive projects, international understanding must be developed and an awareness of one's own prejudices and assumptions is needed. It was our objective to promote a sense of responsibility by teaching about intersectionality. To have a factual understanding of inequalities and their interconnectedness empowers participants to be active citizens. We aimed to not only foster a factual and theoretical understanding, but additionally focused on developing an individual emotional perspective on systems of oppression. Participants should learn about race, class, gender, sexuality, and ableism and their interrelationships. They should have gained awareness of their own personal position within intersectionality, and their possibilities to tackle issues that also relate to those to current issues like the Climate Crisis or the war in Ukraine. Our aim was to build an international community to promote intercultural skills and global thinking. We wanted to encourage the participants to get involved in their respective communities. The youth exchange was intended to be a place where they could gather knowledge, inspiration and a global context on topics familiar to the participants and provide a platform for them to share their endeavours and passions. In this respect, we aimed to get to know the local community with the participants as part of the youth exchange. They should learn to understand the cultural structures of the city and the concerns of the local people and groups. In this context, it was important to us that the participants explore the nature of the area and connect with the culture and the topic of sustainability. A key objective was for the participants to develop a specific project for their local community after learning about inequalities and having learned from the experiences of the youth exchange. They should learn how to design a project and familiarize themselves with the toolkit presented. They should know the key aspects of project planning and strategies to ensure sustainability and inclusiveness of their project. Ideally, the participants should implement their project in their community after the end of the youth exchange. In addition, the youth exchange should have an encouraging and positive impact on the local community and on the environment of the participants and facilitators.
