For the project "Remembrance Beyond Memory", our primary goal was to contextualise the significance of remembrance in today’s world, specifically for youth workers. We aimed to showcase various perspectives on how remembrance can be lived and experienced with young people. By offering youth workers the tools and knowledge to bring remembrance into their interactions with youth, the project sought to ensure that the collective memory of past events remains relevant and actionable. Additionally, we wanted to strengthen the relationship between our organisations, highlighting the importance of collaboratively addressing remembrance across borders and fostering a shared commitment to combating discrimination, anti-semitism, and promoting inclusive societies. The objectives of the project were as follows: O1: To gain a deeper understanding of the missions and work of both hosting organisations (the Austrian National Youth Council and the Council of Youth Movements in Israel), allowing for exchange of best practices, particularly in the areas of remembrance culture and anti-fascism. O2: To reflect on shared history, engage with current societal challenges, and explore the role that youth organisations can play in promoting remembrance culture. This involved fostering the development of inclusive communities that emphasise intercultural understanding, democracy, and active participation in combating racism and discrimination. O3: To enable youth workers to contextualise remembrance culture with and for young people today, through non-formal education methods. This objective focused on equipping youth workers with practical skills to translate historical and intercultural lessons into meaningful action, empowering young people to become agents of remembrance within their communities. These objectives aligned with the broader Erasmus+ priorities by promoting civic engagement, fostering inclusion, and supporting the development of democratic and peaceful co-existence in both Austria and Israel.
