The YouthProAktiv coalition, composed of more than 57 member organisations from 24 different EU & neighbouring countries, advocates for entrepreneurship-friendly policies and the promotion of an educational reform to help young people strengthen their talents and skills through non-formal learning methods. To this goal, our daily work is focused on increasing the quality of youth work and enhancing the professional competences of European youth workers as enablers of youth empowerment. At the same time, we want to foster the development of intercultural skills among the participants of different countries. The relevance of this project resided in the importance of tackling high rates of youth unemployment which are chronic in many EU countries. But also, we wanted to equip youth workers with the necessary tools to deal with the high rates of under-employment among young people. In the last YPA´s General Assembly before designing this project, the members of the partnership reported the lack of skills among youngsters in their road to a better understanding of self-employability, with a special focus on the impact that this might have on the most disadvantaged youngsters. Hence, according to our members’ interests, jointly with the main missions of our coalition, the overall objectives of this project were: - Provide youth workers with the relevant competencies, skills, and methodologies to engage youngsters in self-employment. - Ensure the real empowerment of young people belonging to the most disadvantaged social groups through the deployment of non-formal educational methods in which reflection, critical thinking, community building and civic commitment represent the pivotal element of the learning process. More specifically, apart from the general objectives of the project, we also aimed at some specific goals: - providing specific & tailored training to youth workers on the general scope of self-entrepreneurship in Europe, the different existing regimes & best practices across different EU countries - to illustrate concrete cases of study to increase the practical knowledge of youth workers on how to address “real-life” scenarios that require an understanding of all the influencing variables in the most complete way possible. Under this objective, we seek to show youth workers how to effectively manage socio-economic vulnerable situations involving disadvantaged youngsters with severe employability challenges. - to reinforce the existing sense of fellowship among all the participants and ensure that the international coalition’s raison d'etre is fully accomplished in its entirety. - to trigger constructive group debates over salient issues that influence the way youth workers shape work practices with young people. The list of current issues includes topics such as the long-term sustainability of youth self-employment interventions from a socio-economic perspective, the green aspect of self-employment & impact of the European Green Deal on the quality of youth work & the digital transformation of youth self-employment
