Debattle 2024 wants to inform, sensitize and activate young people, in particular youth councils, to make the needs and requirements of the youth known during the municipal elections in their municipality. The project not only wants to inform, sensitize and activate young people, but also to allow young people to make connections with policymakers. How can they join forces to work together on a strong youth policy in their municipality? Debattle 2024 will be Debattle Double. This time we provide 2 climaxes within the project. A double focus as a new approach to the project. new approach to the project. We will strongly support the youth councils with various tools, campaigns and information that focus on developing skills and encourage youth councils to put youth in their municipality on the map. The project for young people will start one year before the elections (October 2023). We will take them through the timeline that will be central to the project, with 7 solid missions to prepare them step by step to collect the voice of children and young people and to get started with it in a concrete way. For each mission, we offer a range of ready-made tools, information and inspiration. After the elections, we want to challenge the youth councils again to weigh in on the new policy and to sit at the table together with the new alderman for youth to have an influence on the multi-year plan. The needs and requirements that were discussed during the Debattle , before the elections, must be on the table again here, during the Debattle Double. We are launching a campaign to activate policymakers, youth officials and youth councils to jointly develop the new multi-year plan, to help write it and to increase the involvement of youth councils. Debattle Double wants to force at least one moment to bring policymakers around the table with young people to discuss the development of the multi-year plan and to increase the involvement of children and young people. Project objectives: Inform: Introduce young people and youth councils to local elections. How does a municipality work? How can you vote? We will enter into a partnership with the Ambrassade and WATWAT for this. During the election period, they will focus on informing young people about the various elections and how they can vote. 1.3 million young people will be voting for the first time. It will certainly be necessary to show them the ropes. Sensitize: Make young people from youth councils aware of the municipal elections in the first place. In addition, we stimulate them to take action and make their voices heard for a strong future youth policy. Activate: Inspire and encourage young people to take action to look for the voice of the children and young people in their municipality. In order to then make their needs, requirements and wishes known to future policymakers. We want to activate them to organize a youth debate (Debattle) and a round table discussion (Debattle Double) after the elections in order to become involved in the multi-year plan of their municipality. Debattle 2012 the project was a great success with no less than 140 Debattles. In 2018 we committed to organizing 150 Debattles. We achieved that goal with 152 Debattles. In 2024 we aim for 170 (more than half of the youth councils) Debattles and 100 (1/3) registrations for the Debattle Double.
