Fameus organized the third edition of the GEN-ZIE festival; an inclusive arts festival for and by young people between 14 and 24 years old. GEN-ZIE festival was filled with rap, dance, installation art, fashion, music, poetry, painting, video, performance, DJ’s and more. The 20 members of the youth steering group were the beating heart of our project and they really stood up as the co-owners of GEN-ZIE. In order to give all young artists in Antwerp access to GEN-ZIE we realized different artistic trajectories within different art disciplines. This happened throughout the year with different (cultural) partners in Antwerp. Within these trajectories, (vulnerable) young people could develop their talent and skills. Young artists who have difficulties to get access to the cultural field in Antwerp could grow and develop as an artist and could prepare for the GEN-ZIE festival. Fameus takes away as many barriers as possible and tries to build connections between existing initiatives within the cultural field and the young artists. At the GEN-ZIE festival the young artists of Antwerp were invited to show and share their art on a supralocal platform to 1300 audience members. With this project, Fameus tried to build bridges and open doors. This does not stop after the festival. We hope that seeds are planted and we keep on stimulating young people to find places where they can continue their artistic journey.
