The main goal of the project was to support technically, logistically and financially the functioning of the National Students Council (NSC), established in April 2022. The National Student Council (https://www.studentcouncilbg.org/) is a network that unites student councils and parliaments from all over Bulgaria and represents students at the local, national and international level. Its members are 148 student councils and parliaments, out of about 290 active in the country according to statistics of the Ministry of Education and Science ( ........) Until the moment of its establishment, there had been no other national body of student self-government in Bulgaria, despite the attempts to create one over the years and despite the alienation of the student councils and the current misunderstanding of their main function (participation in decision-making processes), which is detrimental to the interests of students, limits their voice and contradicts with the EU Youth Strategy (2019-2027), which promotes their active civic participation in the democratic and public life in Europe. Guided by these arguments, the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bulgaria Association established the NSC within the framework of a previous project - "Establishment of a National Student Parliament", financed under KA3 of the "Erasmus+" program of the previous programme period. In that sense, the objectives of the project were the following: - To complete the processes of development of strategic documents and the election of the Board of the NSC; - To continue holding online working meetings of the Board and members of the NSC (General assembly meetings , Board meetings, additional working meetings); - To hold meetings and regular contact of the members of the NSC with representatives of the Ministry of Education and Science, the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Child Protection State Agency and other institutions and organizations related to youth and education policies; - To organize a second National conference of the NSC; - After each meeting, to prepare proposals concerning the students at the local and national level and to address these proposals to the relevant bodies and institutions; - To expand the NSC network and to increase the number of student councils/parliaments - members of the NSC; - To work for the validation of the NSC as the main body protecting the rights of students and student councils on national level and its recognition among the student communities in the country, the educational system, the youth sector, as well as among decision-makers and institutions, which in the long term will lead to its institutionalization as a national body of student self-government in the Ordinance 13 of 21.09.2016 for civic, health, environmental and cultural education.
