Project “Take the Next Step” was built up based on needs identified in our networks and among youth organisations - there are many youth workers who want to start their own projects and/or organisations, their own activities, but they lack the courage, the ability to take risks, they lack support and mentoring. Instead of taking the next step they get stuck in finding reasons why not to do it. There are also many young people whose background make this start very difficult. This can be due to family background, geographical location, gender issues, learning difficulties, unemployment, etc. In our network, youth workers face the exact same challenges as their target groups, and many times this is the reason they want to support them. With this project, we wanted to support youth workers in overcoming their own personal challenges and to become more grounded in who they are and how they can stay proactive and initiative, no matter the circumstances. Through this, they have a better chance to become inspiration for youth and to support them in their own struggles. We focused on starting and young youth leaders, who are often at the beginning of their professional path and in need of grounding themselves, becoming more aware of their strengths and therefore be able to successfully work with other people and take on a leading role. OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT WERE: To equip youth workers with methods and tools on developing their interpersonal, social and entrepreneurial competences, such as communication, cooperation, ability to take risks, etc. To support youth workers in bringing more self-awareness into their work and in identifying their points of improvement when working with young people To develop youth workers skills in giving and receiving feedback, problem-solving and clear communication in challenging situations To encourage youth workers in handling the unknown and working with limited resources To support participating youth workers in clarifying their ideas for improving local youth work and to provide them with concrete planning tools to make these plans happen To provide space for youth workers to explore the method of experiential and outdoor education
