Objectives

The aim of the project is to develop critical thinking and media literacy in young people aged 15-18 and 18+. We want young people to be able to critically evaluate information, identify misinformation and manipulation, while developing their literacy and digital literacy skills. Through the interactive game "Razors and Dragons", we wanted to create a platform that combines education and entertainment, thereby increasing the interest and engagement of participants. Our long-term goal is to promote MIL and critical thinking education across the EU and to create a sustainable model that can be applied in other educational projects. We created an immersive modular game that can be used for different target group ages and sizes and emphesize the different possibilities and cultural specifics of potencial players or trainers needs. There is a version of the game for older audiance that is very open and dependant on the group playing it and the skills of the Game Master, than there is a version for online playthrough that is for younger audiance and doesnt require involvment of the GM (though it is recomended for a better flow of the game) and we also developed the version for f2f implementation that is great for one day event.

Background

The goal of the "Razors and Dragons" project was to create and test an initiative that engages youth in extracurricular education in critical thinking and media and information literacy (MIL) through an online, f2f and/or hybrid game. Support for critical thinking: Critical thinking helps individuals make informed decisions. A critical thinker, when faced with shocking news, does not make hasty conclusions but seeks verification and logic. This is essential in a world where media are often influenced by political agendas. Enhancement of media and information Literacy (MIL): MIL allows citizens to access, retrieve, understand, evaluate, use, create, and share information and media content in all formats, using various tools critically and ethically. Our goal was to equip young people and people working with this target group with these skills to critically evaluate information and to train it (be trained) via a game. Creation of an interactive educational tool: The main output are game web portals accessible to the public in czech, slovak and engslih. These portals provide interactive andimmersive and flexible methodologies for informal MIL and critical thinking education through an immersive experiential game.
