Objectives

The project ‘Reducing Green Footprint’ was inspired by local environmental practices of participating organizations. Each of them tried to address various ecological issues, problems, and raised awareness among young people about the importance of taking charge of the environment. Each of them looked for opportunities to exchange their practices with other youth organizations and came up with new ideas on how to contribute to green change. The project ‘Reducing Green Footprint’ addressed their needs to brainstorm new ideas, empowering young people to be more active in the environmental field, and, moreover, responded to their need to develop their practices and reduce their footprint during their work with young people at the local, national, or international level. #BeatPlasticPollution, Fridays for Future, actions for World Environment Day. These were concrete examples of actions focused on increasing awareness and encouraging people to take environmental issues seriously. We believed that raising awareness of the youth population was an essential step for the future. We needed to invest in youth and enable them to adopt sustainable methods for environmental protection, to take responsibility for their actions. More than ever before, there was a need to start early by imparting awareness and a sense of environmental responsibility among the youth of today. Taking into consideration the actions taken by young people in the communities of participating countries, we can say that youth increasingly used the power of their voice to advocate for environmentally friendly practices and policies. They mobilized their peers on social media, through ‘face-to-face’ actions to contribute to environmental care and protection. Today, youth can connect through virtual platforms to educate, raise awareness, and share knowledge. With the project ‘Reducing Green Footprint,’ we aimed to connect young people at the international level, to create an opportunity for them to share their green practices, to educate each other, and to brainstorm new ideas for actions leading to sustainable and green change. The project connected countries with different levels of green awareness, thus we believed that young people had an opportunity to learn from each other and compare each other's daily practices and green realities. The overall goal of the Youth Exchange ‘Reducing Green Footprint’ was to encourage the participants to contribute to the sustainable development agenda adopted in 2015 by making changes in their daily life and following the policy of the European Green Deal. Objectives of the Youth Exchange Were: - To increase participants' knowledge on the issues connected with the green footprint and to encourage them to reduce their ecological footprint on a daily basis. - To deepen the participants' understanding of various ways of environmental protection and action, creative recycling, upcycling, as a way of raising ecological awareness and motivating young people to achieve sustainable green change. - To compare the green and sustainable practices across participating countries and to support brainstorming of new ideas leading to changing daily habits to more environmentally friendly ones. - To mobilize the participants and young people reached through social media and follow up activities around sustainable development goals and green agenda. - To celebrate the 1-7 March World Green Week and create & raise awareness in participating countries. - To review the current green practices of participating organizations and work on their improvements, especially focusing on local and international activities to reduce the green footprint of the organizations. - To develop participants' knowledge of the Erasmus + Programme and to encourage the development of new projects. - To give opportunities to young people with fewer opportunities to take part in international youth mobility and to promote their active involvement in addressing green issues. By reaching the above-described objectives, we believed we contributed to youth empowerment and raising awareness of youth and youth organizations on the importance of addressing ecological issues on a daily basis. We also believed that the youth exchange contributed to the European Green deal.
