Objectives

"Get Your Own Picture" is a youth exchange program that brings together young people and youth leaders from Germany and Turkey. The primary objective of this program is to enhance participants' skills and competencies in Inclusion & Active Citizenship. A key focus was to foster an understanding of new media as a platform for expressing opinions and encouraging participation. The participants explored the differences and similarities between their cultures, delving into the interests of today's youth. Through this exchange, the young people gained awareness of European values and experienced interculturalism. Workshops were conducted to teach the basics of video production, including camera operation, microphone usage, sound recording, editing techniques, and tips for creating engaging storylines. After grasping the theoretical aspects of video creation, the participants received support in transforming their ideas into practice. They produced their own videos on the topic of Inclusion & Active Citizenship, which were then screened and analyzed collectively with reviewers. In addition to the video production aspect, the intercultural exchange was of great significance. Various activities were organized, such as visits to local places of interest and special theme nights, where participants had the opportunity to showcase their respective countries and discuss their unique cultural aspects. These cultural education initiatives played a crucial role in providing accessible international learning and fostering cultural exchange, irrespective of social background, age, or gender. Non-verbal forms of communication were emphasized to overcome linguistic barriers and to highlight opportunities that are particularly relevant in this context. These forms of communication help reduce prejudices, encourage new perspectives, and promote a holistic understanding of social processes and topics that are important to young people. Throughout the program, all participants lived together, learned from one another, and collectively sought personal growth, gaining new perspectives by engaging with diverse intercultural groups. This fostered interdependency and facilitated the expression of individual thoughts and ideas. The final video products were showcased in partner countries, and submissions were made to short film festivals across the EU. Throughout the project, we adhered to the rules and guidelines of the Erasmus+ Programme. We also dedicated a specific session during the exchange to provide information on the new Erasmus+ Programme and Youthpass, ensuring that participants were well-informed about the opportunities available to them.
