Objectives

The project "Upcycling + Recycling + Creativity in Practice" was initiated with clear objectives aimed at making a significant impact on the participating young people and the local community. The primary goal was to provide young individuals, including those with fewer opportunities, the chance to gain practical experience in the field of upcycling and recycling. Another objective was to equip young people with concrete skills and knowledge in the areas of the environment and conservation. Through peer-to-peer learning and practical workshops, they were not only to receive information but also to be empowered to change their attitude towards the environment and integrate environmentally friendly practices into their daily lives. The youth exchange also served as a space to foster the exchange of experiences among like-minded individuals. This allowed participants to deepen their knowledge, learn from each other, and gain insights into the work of their organizations as well as practices in their home countries. A particular focus was also placed on providing young people from the local community the opportunity to experience the international youth exchange. Through open workshops, they were not only to engage with upcycling and recycling but also to develop an interest in the Erasmus+ program, peer-to-peer learning, and non-formal education. Another emphasis of the project was to empower participants to proactively engage with green and sustainable topics. International activities, social media, and short videos were utilized to promote upcycling and recycling among young people. This contributed to raising awareness of environmental issues and turning the youth into ambassadors for sustainable practices. The youth exchange took place in Istanbul, Turkey, from March 20 to 30, 2023, encompassing 9 days with additional travel days. In total, 54 young people aged 15 to 30 and 6 group leaders participated, with 24 individuals with fewer opportunities being particularly considered. The participating countries were Turkey, Germany, Romania, Bulgaria, North Macedonia, and the Czech Republic.
