Objectives

The project #Young change maker was implemented to offer youngsters the possibility to take part in a participation process related to the European Green Deal and to bring participatory processes and participatory options for (young) European citizens closer to its target groups. We implemented the project to: - Let youngsters experience a participatory process by developing a project idea related to the European Green Deal (hereafter also: EGD), aiming at encouraging them to become active members of their communities and to take responsibility as democratic citizens. - Connect youngsters to public authorities by presenting participation possibilities and by arranging a dialogue with political guests. - Empower youngsters to train new competences that should enhance their political and general self-efficacy and thereby become active members of society. The project had the following four general objectives: 1) The first general objective of the project was to empower youngsters to shape their own future by claiming their needs and to become politically and societally involved. Youngsters should acquire knowledge about how to voice their interests and how to start a democratic debate which can eventually lead to political action. 2) The second general objective of the project was to deconstruct the perception that politics is an elitist project that only adults can get involved in. Therefore, European youngsters should be re-connected with politics and claim their role in the political process. 3) The third general objective of the project was that the participants experience the development of a democratic participation process by formulating and planning a project idea around the European Green Deal. Thereby, they were supposed to understand the complexity of public participation and experienced the difficulty of finding a consensus within their group. 4) The fourth general objective of the project was to build up trust and the feeling that youngsters are taken seriously by engaging them in an open dialogue with a political decision-maker. This dialogue should enable a direct communication between the youngsters and the political sphere and was intended to strengthen their confidence in the responsiveness of the political system.
