Objectives

The overall purpose is to help young people question news and recognize fake news. To achieve this, we take the method "Philosophy for Children" (P4C) as a basis. With P4C, youth workers are able to teach young people critical and systematic thinking (includ. stimulating videos/images, asking difficult questions, reading materials that encourage inquiry). Because this method is so powerful, we want youth professionals to be able to use it in digital space. As we saw during the Corona pandemic, and as we know that youngsters are online quite a lot of time and used to online tools, we take the leap to shift offline to online activities as a pilot. We also empower professionals to use targeted public relations around the method as especially online communication can usefully accompany the application of P4C. To reach those goals, the project participants create a guide that enables youth work professionals to implement the P4C method online with young people. The guide also addresses how the method can be accompanied by effective public relations. In addition, the project serves to transfer knowledge between the organizations and build a stable partnership. We share our complementary knowledge and in this way both organizations grow.

Background

Democracy is under pressure around the world. Fake news, often spread intentionally, contributes to imbalance in a democratic system. If you look at elections or the shift to the right in many states, the need to strenghten democracy is obious. For young people, wih the presence of several crises (climate change, war...), is hard to distinguish between news and disinformation. It is therefore crucial to train young people to deal critically with the news. To really reach young people, the teaching methods must be fun and entertaining. We believe that we can achieve this by combining the P4C methodology (where Anthropolis in an expert) with online relationship-building tools (where Youth Agency has en expertise) - flanked with public relations and social media work. The aim was to develop the 2 organizations during the project as both organizations build up additional knowledge in new concepts and methods of youth work. At the same time, we can advance digital transformation through the development of digital readiness and capacity. In the long run, we anticipate that the growing partnership between the 2 organizations can lead to a long-term stable collaboration for future cooperation.
