The focus of this project was the identification of topics of basic financial education for young people, especially for disadvantaged young people, in order to strengthen their social inclusion in Europe through target group-specific educational offers. The participating organisations analysed the needs of young people in the field of basic financial education in the project partner countries and tested existing best practice basic finance educational offers with the target groups of the project partner organisations in order to gain insights for the improvement of basic financial education in Europe.
The teaching of relevant key competences in the area of basic financial education is not, or not sufficiently, included in school education goals. Most young people do not receive support either at school or at home in developing the financial skills that are necessary to secure their livelihoods now and in the future. Disadvantaged young people need more target group-specific educational programmes that are directly geared towards their living environments and therefor can reach them. For these reasons, we have worked together with organisations that are actively involved with young people in their daily work. Our goal was to develop initial steps to prepare young people, including disadvantaged young people, for adult life through target group-specific support in the area of basic financial education, thereby promoting their active participation in society and inclusion in the European community, as well as raising awareness of basic financial education in Europe as a whole.
