Objectives

Our objectives were: O1: To understand the needs of under-represented migrant communities with regards to access to international youth work O2: To cocreate with migrant communities effective communication methodologies to reach and engage new migrant communities, especially the most marginalised. O3: To build the capacity of young migrants as communicators and activists, empowering them to act as multipliers within their communities. O4: Integrate co-created communication strategies into our organizations' ongoing activities, providing opportunities for young migrants to lead local initiatives. O5: To make our learning actionable and transferable through a network of multipliers and information that is practical for international youth work actors.

Background

As a mix of partners, working locally, internationally, institutionally, and as volunteer networks, including newcomers and experienced partners in Erasmus+, connected through our common theme of migrant empowerment, we applied for this project to: - critically assess, in a peer-to-peer setting of organisations the means through which we communicate our opportunities, and to reflect and act on methods to further reach out to under-represented communities, especially with regards to access to international mobilities in the E+ program. We looked to address the need for effective communication between NGOs and new migrant communities. Migrant-focused NGOs often struggle to reach the most marginalized migrants with information about services, education, and opportunities due to many reasons: socio / economic / cultural / language barriers, lack of trust, and inaccessible communication channels. By collaborating as a consortium of migrant-led and migrant-focused NGOs from Ireland, Germany, and Portugal, we aimed to explore innovative solutions to improve outreach and ensure that vital information reaches those who need it most, and to then directly pilot it in our organisations work.
