The aim of the project Green Alternative for Caucasus was to discover participants abilities, capacities and personal skills through outdoor, eco-related activities and to learn to live a better healthy life and environmentally. The General idea was to promote greater understanding and appreciation for nature, local society and culture by implementing an ecotourism project that would address the current issues resulting from mass tourism to minimize visitors’ physical, social, behavioral and psychological impact on local communities. Project Objectives: 1. Build environmental and cultural awareness as well as respect. 2. Empower young people in active citizenship by their participation in decision-making process and taking responsibility for environmental protection in their home countries. 3. Educate participants about the environmental, social and political impacts of both mass tourism and ecotourism via non-formal learning; and foster their critical thinking skills when evaluating pros and cons of both phenomena. 4. Raise awareness about ecotourism to promote environmental sustainability, long-term solutions for conserving, sustainable travelling and enhancing bio-cultural diversity. 5. Engage youth with a healthy lifestyle by ecotourism activities such as hiking in a host country. Overall, the project addresses the necessity of environmental, economic and social sustainability in the light of increasing tourism in both host and home countries of the project participants. The project also targets other aspects highly topical within the European context, such as the need for intercultural communication skills via creating the international project that involves faraway located countries.
