The project embarked on a journey with the overarching goal of making a meaningful impact on several fronts. As the digital landscape evolved rapidly since the mid-90s, the initiative was born out of the recognition of the transformative shift towards an information society and knowledge economy. Discussions surrounding the development of the information society had been pivotal in policy circles since the mid-1990s. In response to the pressing need highlighted by the European Commission to address digital resilience, the project took on the challenge of exploring social media as not just virtual spaces but as public forums for expression and as platforms contributing to the construction of European citizenship. Against the backdrop of the COVID-19 pandemic, the project honed in on the diverse levels of digital resilience among nations. It emphasized the pivotal role of social media as a tool for fostering social inclusion, recognizing its significance in connecting youth not just within the EU but beyond. A key objective was to deepen the knowledge of participants on matters of diversity and equality, with a specific focus on promoting social inclusion through the dynamic medium of social media. The project identified and promoted exemplary practices and stories from the realms of young individuals, youth organizations, and stakeholders engaged in social inclusion efforts. Building upon the pillars of social media, storytelling, and youth empowerment, the project aimed to facilitate intercultural and inter-religious dialogue. This dialogue was not just a conversation but a deliberate effort to understand and bridge the gaps between young people from diverse backgrounds. Recognizing the critical need for enhanced digital competences among youth, the project conducted a concise research survey involving 142 participants. The findings highlighted the urgency of addressing media literacy gaps, and the primary goal became supporting the digital competences of youth to empower them against the challenges posed by disinformation. In the spirit of knowledge sharing, the project aimed to identify and disseminate successful practices and narratives from young individuals and organizations engaged in social inclusion campaigns through media literacy. The journey didn't stop there. Following detailed feedback from the National Agency, the project underwent refinements based on their recommendations. Not content with limiting its impact to the EU alone, the project expanded its scope. Colleagues from beyond the EU were invited, recognizing that the challenges of disinformation often transcended borders. The intent was clear - to strengthen global resilience and digital sustainability. In summary, the narrative of the Youth Exchange project unfolded as a purposeful endeavor to tackle the challenges of disinformation, champion media literacy, and foster social inclusion among youth, transcending geographical boundaries within and beyond the European Union.
