Objectives

With Ungdommens Folkemøde NORD, we wanted to create a democratic, creative, and cultural meeting point where Nordic youth could come together to explore and experiment with the democratic challenges of the region. The overall objectives with the project were to contribute to a feeling of community among Nordic youth and to strengthen the democratic self-confidence of young people in the Nordic region. The small-scale partnership supported these objectives and with the project, we wanted to test and evaluate the Ungdommens Folkemøde- method on an international level; gain a better understanding of Nordic youth's perspectives on democracy, civic engagement, and social entrepreneurship by collecting statements at the festival; and to strengthen the cooperation between our Nordic partner organizations and thereby improve our organizations' work with youth involvement on a local and/or a national level.

Background

We applied for Erasmus + small-scale partnership as a part of a larger project, - Ungdommens Folkemøde NORD. Ungdommens Folkemøde NORD was a democracy festival for Nordic youth created to address the overall low democratic self-confidence of Nordic youth and the almost non-existing feeling of community among young people in the Nordic region. With the grant from Erasmus+ we wanted to strengthen the cooperation with our Nordic project partners, test the Ungdommens Folkemøde-method on an international level and get a better understanding of Nordic youth's perspectives on democracy, civic engagement, and social entrepreneurship. In addition, the grant made it possible for us to create a festival that was accessible for Nordic youth with different socioeconomic backgrounds as well as different physical and psychological conditions.
