Objectives

In recent times, changes in the world have greatly impacted education and youth work. After Covid, Europe has been facing more challenges, like economic issues and safety concerns. Everything has been becoming more digital, including how young people learn and engage. This is making things like talking to others less common, causing more stress and reducing social skills among youth. We had talked to teachers and youth workers in schools, NGOs, and clubs we know. They told us they often don't have the right tools or know-how to deal with these problems, which makes their work less effective and makes them feel overwhelmed. As youth workers who also love the outdoors, we see Outdoor Adventure Education (OAE) as a great way to help. This is why we decided to use Outdoor Adventure Education methods with the formal as well as non-formal education practitioners in order to give them competences and tools needed for their work. The main aim of the project was to increase the quality of education and outreach of youth work by giving participants relevant training and promoting more active, nature-based, up-to-date & learner-oriented practices in the field of education & youth work. The project sets the following objectives: - To explore and share current challenges of young people in Europe in the post-pandemic period and identify effective and relevant steps that youth workers and educators can apply in their work in that regard; - To bring together participants from formal and non-formal education and create space for exchanging practices, tools, learning approaches and thus create synergy between those sub-sectors. - To promote Outdoor Adventure Education as an effective, healthy and sustainable learning methodology in education and youth work; (With the specific focus on its multi-layer potential, including stress reduction, mental hygiene, physical wellbeing, etc.) - To explore and cultivate the potential and value of using nature in the process of young peoples’ learning and personal development; - To improve participants’ soft skills and competencies relevant for their work with young people; - To improve basic hard skills (trip planning, safety & first aid, risk management, etc.) needed for running educational activities within the Outdoor Adventure Education framework; - To explore further possibilities of growing network and cooperation on this topic within the framework of the Erasmus + programme and beyond; The methodology of this PDA was based on the principles of non-formal education, Outdoor Adventure Education, and Experiential Learning. The program will provide extensive theoretical inputs alongside authentic outdoor experience for hands-on practice. This enabled participants not only to fully participate in the learning process, but also take more active ownership and responsibility for their experience and learning.
