The primary aim of the project was to promote meaningful and structured youth participation in the decision-making processes of the Municipality of Oraiokastro. The project was designed as a response to the identified gap between local youth and municipal authorities, especially in a semi-urban and geographically diverse area where young people often feel disconnected from public structures and civic engagement opportunities. We sought to create a long-term impact by fostering trust, dialogue, and cooperation between young people and local decision-makers, building a foundation for sustainable youth participation in local governance. The specific objectives of the project included: – Empowering young people from the Municipality of Oraiokastro to identify local challenges, express their needs, and co-develop solutions with municipal actors – Facilitating inclusive consultations to ensure representation of youth voices from different areas and socio-economic backgrounds within the municipality – Equipping both youth and municipal staff with the necessary tools, knowledge, and attitudes to engage in co-decision processes – Establishing a Local Youth Council as a formal participatory structure that reflects the diversity of local youth and ensures their continuous involvement in shaping local policies – Raising awareness among stakeholders, including educators, civil society, and parents, about the importance of youth participation in democratic life Overall, the project aimed to strengthen youth citizenship, combat apathy, and provide a concrete platform where young people could transition from passive observers to active changemakers in their community.
