Objectives

The project “YAIS!!! 2.0 Youth Active improving society through non-formal skills growing in values: Voluntering to enjoy in a healthy and helpful pastime”. After a very well evaluated pilot experience, this second time we wanted to improve the project even more. We try to provide our participants, and by extension to their social environments, a leisure alternative to a sedentary lifestyle, an alternative to the consumption of drugs and alcohol, to spend the day hooked to the phone, or to the playstation, a way to understand free time as a precious time that can be used to do good, to ADD to our societies and to enjoy a free time away from the consumerist and lazy leisure in which this society is involved. Our project seeks, under the non-formal methodology “learning by doing (Dewey, 1958)”, to achieve the following objectives: * To provide participants with leisure resources away from consumerism and sedentary lifestyles, proposing a battery of activities that make them enjoy and be an active part of society. * To bring them closer to volunteering, to solidarity with society, to introduce them to very different associations where they can enjoy and fulfill themselves as people (in addition to learning and gaining skills and experiences). * To get all participants to personally, or in groups, look for entities in their localities where they can spend their free time collaborating as volunteers and introduce them to us (it is not necessary to be a therapist to collaborate with autistic children, you can simply be a volunteer who accompanies them to pool therapies improving their lives and feeling fulfilled by it while you acquire experiences and grow as a person). * Create a network of digital connections improving their competences and skills, where they can share the results obtained and continue the work after the exchange. *To create a documentary of the project where the participants contributed the editable material and to be able to show it in our diffusion network, as well as in the media of our localities. * To get to know different cultures, through the cultural nights by countries and through the coexistence in mixed rooms and multi-country work teams. * To get to know the Youthpass certificate through the activities described in this project, making the participants aware of its importance, their ability to individualize their own certificate, and its possibilities of exploitation. * To introduce European Volunteering as a possible option for the participants (a youth worker with more than 20 years in E+, YouthinAction and Europe Youth gave us to know such a possibility), being an activity very much in line with the topics to be discussed and a real possibility where to exercise the proposed topics in the near future. The example of our pretensions with our line of YAIS projects would be: participant “X” has never considered collaborating with the protector of his town because he does not see himself there daily despite his interest in that entity, but after sharing a day in the protector partner of the project, and sharing the day to day of its volunteers, it occurs to him that he could help with the social networks of the protector of his town, and after the experience where he lives with several very disparate entities during the project and knows a wide range of possibilities, he decides to start being an active citizen in his environment in a way that he had not considered before. In our first YAIS project, this has already happened, and we want to approach new associations and new participants with the firm conviction that it will serve to stir consciences and promote active citizenship.
