Objectives

During the project "Inclusive ritual - Art Inc. III" the participants wanted to address some challenges that young people with diverse-abilities face today in integration into society and reduce the gap between people without and with disabilities. Through implementation of this project we promoted change of attitudes towards disability communities and empowered our participants creating moments for connection and joy. With this project we have started small and provided an innovative and individual-friendly approach in dealing with the complex set of issues. First of all we created opportunities to develop relationships between people with and without disabilities, a meaningful and positive experience that contributed in accepting each other in the process, regardless of their abilities or disabilities. While those with diverse-abilities took more responsibility to reach out and participate in community, at the same time we asked communities to come up with new strategies to include all its citizens in community life. Second, we dispelled the myth that people with diverse-abilities are only interested in disability issues by creating opportunities for people to become involved in European projects that do not focus specifically on disability concerns. For that reason we have chosen the performing (contemporary dance and theatre) and figurative arts and craftsmanship as vehicles of social action justified in light of the ability of these arts to allow an immediate and profound expression of one’s thoughts and emotions. The participants became more aware of their own body, mental well-being and empathy, through various activities that developed their use of gravity, momentum, moving on and off balance, suspension and physical and emotional connections. Through this journey of learning, sharing and understanding we were guided by the motto of the disability movement–Nothing about us without us. Goals of this project were as follows: -broaden and deepen social participation of young people at local, regional, national or European level creating a moments where people with diverse-abilities have the right to participate in civil, social and cultural life of the community just as anyone else and take part in inclusive non formal educational activities working together in international environment with a people from different countries; -foster the inclusion of young people with fewer opportunities, with particular emphasis in young people at risk of marginalisation ensuring the accessibility of the E+ Programme for young people with fewer opportunities; -promote intercultural dialogue and strengthen knowledge and acceptance of diversity in society, as well as the common values of freedom, tolerance and respect of human, social and economic rights; -empower young people and enable them to connect, express their opinions to and influence elected policy-makers, public administrations, interest groups, civil society organisations, or individual citizens within any of the social processes affecting their lives; -change the attitudes of general public and particular stakeholders by making them aware that everyone is responsible for finding solution for improving social inclusion; -offer youngsters the opportunity to make their voice heard and to use performance, dance choreography, theatre workshops, art in general as a tool for active youth participation and means of safeguarding their future social and emotional well‐being; -strengthen the capacities of organizations of people with diverse-abilities in advocating for human rights and cooperate with other organizations from local and European level in order to create a stable and effective network to develop projects having as topic fighting against discrimination and social exclusion. -empowering young people to express their voices and advocate for change, creating a network of multipliers able to promote the action against discrimination and social exclusion of their peers.
