Objectives

The "Sustainable Tourism Network" project emerged from the shared concerns of an international group of young individuals who initially connected during the Med4Tourism youth exchange in Lecco, Italy, in 2019. Our collective experiences, coupled with the commitment of local youth to sustainability, have convinced us that fostering sustainability and sustainable tourism is achievable through European educational mobility programs. This exchange is designed to bring together young minds from the realms of education and tourism to collaboratively reflect on and deepen their understanding of sustainability and sustainable tourism. Together, we aimed to establish the fundamental principles of sustainable tourism, exploring concepts such as the local or circular economy, degrowth, and the production of km0. Our project had the following objectives: Facilitate the exchange of insights and experiences in tourism and sustainable local development, thereby inspiring and empowering youth entrepreneurship and encouraging sustainable habits. Foster connections between young influencers in local tourism and the education sector, leveraging the support of European youth mobility programs to enhance their projects. Spark reflection on and disseminate key concepts such as circular economy, local production, and degrowth among participants and the broader society. Create platforms for cross-cultural encounters, promoting mutual learning and solidarity among young people from diverse backgrounds. Strengthen participants' confidence in their capacity to drive change by offering new avenues for personal development and equipping them with tools for active societal participation. Bridge the gap between Europe and rural areas, contributing to the fight against marginalization and social imbalances. Cultivate a network among young participants, their organizations, and local entities to foster sustained collaboration.
