In an increasingly digital and interconnected time, we run the risk of forgetting one of humanity's most ancestral ties: the one with nature and with our territory. The need to re-discover this ancestral and unique connection with nature and environment allows us to empathize and create connections between people coming from all over the world. The idea of nature as a connecting element was the pillar of the project "Hiking for a Change", a youth exchange whose purpose was to forge connections, both between young people and nature, as well as between young people from different countries and cultures. Our aim with this project was to bring young people closer to nature through hiking and outdoor activities designed to discover the territory, and allow them to establish connections with young people from other cultures in a natural, relaxed and inclusive environment. We promoted hiking and sustainable tourism techniques among young people as practical tools to grow at a personal level and a professional level. With this project, we also approached cultural diversity through activities in nature, allowing for a greater social integration of vulnerable groups, reducing radicalisation and xenophobia and promoting a more collaborative and international society.
