Objectives

"Baco Festum: a journey to the roots" was a project born out of the curiosity and passion for exploring the origins of ancient traditions and practices such as viticulture and gold mining as a way of reflecting on the common values that unite us. We traveled back in time to the Romanization of the territories we know today as El Bierzo and Valdeorras (in the provinces of León and Ourense, respectively). From Valdeorras Vive we firmly believe that our historical heritage must be shared and valued by the young people of our communities, inside and outside of our boarders. Participants could find similarities and points in common with us, since there are plenty of examples of mining activity and wine-growing agriculture in Europe (countries like Georgia, which are was involved in this project, have an old wide known winery tradition). Something simmilar happens with the legacy that Romanization left in our communities, an abundant and very rich imprint that deserves to be understood and studied, but also celebrated. With this project we wanted to deepen our cultural roots, our traditions, customs and ways of being, which explain the rich diversity of European cultures that form a mosaic around common values: respect for diversity, tolerance, peace, and inclusion. The main objectives of the project were: - Inspire local and international youth to commit to a more sustainable rural way of life. - Learn and share common values: respect, empathy, diversity and inclusion. - Revalue the cultural space of the El Bierzo region, attract innovation and transform its challenges into opportunities. - Adress global problems like racism, discrimination, migration and to seek for their solutions. - Learn how to overcome intercultural, geographical and social barriers. - Define and then overcome existing prejudices and stereotypes. - Define key concepts of cross-cultural management and diversity management. - Make the results of the project visible at the local, national and international level to serve as an inspiration for young people in rural areas. - Improve skills and develop different competences in the process of non-formal education. - To interact with YouthPass as an instrument of self-reflection and personal growth.
