The GIRLS4TECH project is presented as an opportunity for local development led by youth, in particular girls, through innovation and technology. The teaching of STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) is one of the priorities in education, not only for the Erasmus programme but for the education system in general. These are presented as the future of the world of work, with technology and digitalisation playing an increasingly important role in our lives. Likewise, the last COVID-19 pandemic highlighted their importance and usefulness in all aspects of life, from the personal to the professional sphere. As a result, digital has become a priority for both European and national policies. However, this sector is still led by men. The lack of female role models and lack of information and experience in STEM subjects means that only 7% of girls say they see themselves as scientists in the future and only 30% choose STEM subjects in their university education. Likewise, preparing young people for the future involves not only training them in those subjects that will lead the professional sector in the future, but also instilling values such as equality, commitment and active participation in the development of their municipalities. With this in mind, the main objective of GIRLS4TECH is to encourage the participation of young people in the development of their own municipalities through the identification of the challenges they face and the search for solutions based on innovation and technology. It will also put girls at the forefront of these initiatives, thus promoting female entrepreneurship and leadership with the aim, among others, of fostering their interest and participation in STEM subjects. To this end, a consortium led by the Finnova Foundation is proposed, which will transfer its experience and knowledge in youth, European funds, European policies, technology and innovation to the local level thanks to the participation of three municipalities, Benaguasil, Alfafar and Albal. The municipalities, through their youth councils, youth councils, youth associations and educational centres, will involve the youth of their municipalities in this project so that they are the ones who contribute to and promote the development of their localities. In this way, GIRLS4TECH highlights other values such as the need for public-private and inter-municipal cooperation in the economic and social development of municipalities, understanding that the challenges we face affect all actors and go beyond territorial boundaries. Girsl4Tech proposes a series of activities including mobility actions and events that with the search for solutions and technology as a common thread will foster dialogue and teamwork between youth and decision-makers from the local to the European level. The project will encourage debate, participation, cooperation and youth citizenship responsibility with young people themselves as protagonists from the drafting to the implementation of this project.
