Objectives

This project aimed to address a significant environmental concern, which is the human impact resulting from outdoor activities and habits. With 42 percent of the global population comprising young people under the age of 25, we considered that it was crucial to focus on changing the mindset of the young generation to protect the climate. Studies show that climate change is a pressing global issue that experts predict will lead to potentially dangerous climate shifts in the coming decades, affecting the environment, economies, and societies in profound ways. Human activities have been identified as a major driver of this change. The number of people engaging in outdoor activities in nature has risen by 72% since 2014, as reported in a recent study. This increase, coupled with the escalating climate crisis, highlights the urgent need to safeguard the environment during outdoor adventures. After participating in several youth programs with partner organizations, it became evident that there was a low level of environmental awareness and eco-friendly practices among the youth. As a response, we decided to organize in an international context this TC to share experiences and find solutions. Aim of the project: The project's primary goal was to enhance the capacity of 23 youth workers (Force majeure: one participant from GR had COVID -19 and couldn’t participate) from 8 partner organizations in organizing and conducting international youth-exchanges in a more ecologically sustainable manner. This, in turn, aimed to raise global awareness about environmental issues and promote eco-friendly practices not only among the youth but also among their families and local communities. The specific objectives reached by the end of the project were as follows: 1. Empowered 23 youth workers from 8 partner organizations with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to organize sustainable, environmentally friendly outdoor activities during youth mobilities. 2. Enhanced the capacities of participating youth workers to use non-formal learning methods, thereby increased young people's understanding of sustainable living and encouraging them to adopt eco-friendly habits to minimize their environmental impact. 3. Fostered solidarity and intercultural dialogue among the 23 youth workers from 8 different countries, encouraging them to collaboratively find solutions to issues in their respective communities. Overall, by achieving these objectives, the project sought to make a positive impact on the environment and promote a sustainable future for the planet.
