Objectives

The famous motto "The best time to act on behalf of the Planet was yesterday!" has been embraced by environmental activists for quite some time. The implementation of this motto also finds its resonance in the successful execution of our project, "YOU(th) 2 Save the Planet!" Global environmental challenges, such as climate change, overconsumption, and inefficient production models, have been well-documented in today's society. The imperative to address the impact of litter on nature and oceans is clear, requiring steps to safeguard the future of our planet. The UN's 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, adopted in 2015, serves as a blueprint for achieving a better and more sustainable future for all by 2030. The urgency to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) is evident, pressure individuals to take immediate action. The implementation of our project aligns with this urgency, focusing on educating young people on how to reduce their environmental impact through simple, everyday actions. The youth exchange, "YOU(th) 2 Save the Planet," has successfully tackled eight of the 17 SDGs, with a primary focus on environmental topics. Our priority has been to educate young people on the 7R concept, emphasizing the Reuse aspect and motivating behavioral change. By encouraging the use of the 7R concept, particularly in terms of Reuse, we have collectively lowered our individual footprint on the environment, reduced consumption, and contributed to the protection of ecosystems and the climate. 36 young people from Croatia, Macedonia, Portugal, Turkey, Romania and Italy have worked together on implementing numerous activities on the topic of environmental protection, 7R concept with focus on Reuse area. The project's activities stressed the importance of promoting sustainable communities, reasonable consumption, and the better use of resources. All these topics aligns with the ideals of social and environmental sustainability. The project has provided a platform for young individuals to learn about the 7R concept, with a special focus on Reuse, environmental protection, and reducing the environmental footprint on our planet. The project objectives related to - Increase the awareness of 36 young participants about the benefits of the 7R concept, with a specific focus on the Reuse aspect, and the positive outcomes associated with it; - Broaden the knowledge of participants and introduce the importance of environmental protection and sustainable development, emphasizing the need for immediate action; - Engage participants in creating interactive quizzes, using platforms such as Typeform, Microsoft Form, Quiz Maker, and Google Form, as fun and competitive games related to the 7R concept. This aimed to enhance creativity and digital competencies among the youth; - Implement four local events with the goal of promoting environmental awareness and sustainable development at the local level. Activities included planting trees, organizing a local trade fair for exchanging old items, repurposing and reusing materials to build furniture for a local school, and designing and sewing shopping bags from old materials; - Develop three YouTube tutorials focused on the Reuse step of the 7R concept, providing tips and tricks for repurposing old items and reducing consumption; - Provide a platform for the promotion of cultural diversity in Europe and foster intercultural understanding among participants from different social, cultural, and religious backgrounds. Through engaging activities such as teambuilding, creating interactive quizzes, organizing local events, and developing YouTube tutorials, the project has achieved its goals and also contributed to the promotion of cultural diversity and intercultural understanding among European youth. The active participation of youth in environmental protection, fostered by the project, underlines the importance of international cooperation in addressing global challenges and highlights the motto of "think globally – act locally." The successful implementation of the project reflects a proactive approach to building a sustainable future for Europe and the world.
