Living in a multicultural and identity-diverse society underscores the need to instill the value of tolerance from an early age. This idea was initiated by students residing in Virovitica's student dormitory, who have been exposed to a multitude of different and diverse individuals from a young age (typically starting at 14 years old). Sharing living spaces with a diverse group of people at a young age can be both challenging and enlightening. These students coexist with individuals from various cities, cultures, and with different values. This diversity can sometimes be perplexing for students who are unsure how to approach their new roommates, fellow dormitory residents, and the broader community. In response to this situation, older students recognized the need to find a solution to enhance their skills and abilities in accepting people who are different. They decided to do so through non-formal education methods. Objectives of the project included: 1. Improved Understanding of Human Rights and Tolerance: In a diverse society like the European Union, this project aimed to enhance young people's knowledge of human rights and tolerance. Participants learned about the laws and conventions that protected individuals and gained skills to identify and combat stereotypes and prejudices, particularly those spread by the media. This fostered critical thinking and helped dispel misconceptions about vulnerable groups. 2. Improved Sensitivity Towards Vulnerable Social Groups: This project focused on educating young people about various minorities and identities, teaching them to accept differences and combat stereotypes and prejudices. Participants learned to recognize their own biases and developed empathy for marginalized groups by putting themselves in their shoes. This nurtured open-mindedness and the ability to stand up for those in need. 3. Learned to Resolve Conflicts and Accept Differences: The project's goal was to teach young people conflict resolution and the acceptance of differing viewpoints, even when they clashed with one's own values. By resolving conflicts, participants enhanced their assertiveness and communication skills, emphasizing the importance of tolerance, acceptance, and inclusion in a diverse society where diversity was considered a source of richness to be protected.
