“Looking back – moving forward! Inner insight” continued building a bridge between the past and the future. This was a follow-up project, a continuation of the previous edition “Looking back - moving forward!” The participants felt the need to strengthen and upgrade the foundations of that bridge. We had already started looking back and then it was time to move more forward than we already did. The continuation of the project “Looking back-Moving forward!” helped the participants understand the psychological, interpersonal and intercultural aspect and consequences of war. By digging deeper into both themselves and history, they saw many different, but also important outcomes of the war that we still have to discuss. We focused on what is common for Europeans and how we can learn from history, fostered reconciliation and constructive approaches to remembrance, promoted the European spirit of cooperation, understanding, and tolerance and active participation of young people. We also focused this time on deeper psychological effects of these historical facts. This project brought together youngsters from countries involved in different past events that still shape the path towards the future (Croatia and Serbia, Macedonia and Turkey). They worked on one goal together: to learn about historical facts in a critical peaceful way. The main need was bringing positions closer together in order to prevent/tackle hate speech aroused as a consequence. Participants from countries that are not directly involved in the same historical events (Italy and Spain), but have gone through similar situations contributed with an external point of view and enriched the debate. Our participants gained the knowledge of how the people in the past have coped with the different political situations which have fostered critical thinking. The main goal of this project was to bring together 36 young people and motivate them to investigate and preserve historical memory, promote reconciliation and foster remembrance through non-formal education activities. This fostered critical thinking and provided participants the necessary researching techniques and tools, focusing on the causes and the consequences that caused historical events that shouldn’t be repeated. Our objectives were: - gather 36 young people from different backgrounds to promote cultural diversity, giving them the opportunity to learn about other cultures while living and working in mixed nationalities. - compile and contrast press and media clippings about different historical events from different sources in order to increase the knowledge of historical facts in participants and develop their critical thinking. - provide space for a constructive way of addressing a controversial topic through nonviolent communication methods like debates and mixed group conversations, learn about historical events in an interesting and amusing way to foster reconciliation and remembrance. - prepare a presentation consisting of the results for sharing it with their local communities, promoting values of the project. - collect the testimony from older generations that lived through some historical events and develop a digital book with the aim to conserve the historical heritage through storytelling. - prepare and implement a theater performance for the local community, raise awareness on a local level about diversity and promote European cooperation.
