The general aim of the project was to explore the topic of war through a creative and educational tool of film. The topic of war is nowadays relevant for youth all over Europe. Starting from the location of the Youth Exchange, Osijek, one of the most impacted cities by the Homeland War is still in recovery. The war left many consequences on this area in general, but specifically on youth who suffer the prejudiced, passive, and hopeless mentality that was transmitted from previous generations. A lot of people still have extreme and negative opinions about bordering countries and their nationalities which slows down the progression of this area in a personal, social, civic, political, and economic way. Through this, we discovered the need to realize the importance of learning from the past, focusing on the present, work on conflict resolution so that a better and more fruitful future can be created. Another event that struck European youth and made the topic of war more personal is the war in Ukraine. Based on the reports and insight from youth who participated in the first CineWar Youth Exchange, there was a big desire to learn more about why war happens and how it impacts the lives of youth. By gathering youth from Europe and discussing the topic of war, while expressing their feelings and thoughts we aimed to promote the EU values such as tolerance, interculturality, peace, and unity. YE CineWar Revolution provided participants with a safe space that often isn't found in our daily lives to express their views and learn from each other. The youth exchange gave us an opportunity to learn about the past of participating countries, help them see things from different perspectives, think more critically, look at the bigger picture, and become more tolerant. This is why on this YE we included participants from countries that share a long past, for example, Croatia and Serbia; Turkey, Greece, and Cyprus; North Macedonia and Greece. We also wanted to give the opportunity to participants with fewer opportunities such as those who are part of minorities, have a migrant background, economic disadvantages, geographical obstacles, etc., so there could be a variation of opinions and lifestyles as well as more insight into how war could impact different groups of people within the participating countries. Moreover, we wanted to use film as an effective educational tool that influences people's emotions, views, opinions, and imagination and inspires them to act in their community. We wanted to challenge youth to think critically about films, practice active watching, and create short films themselves to promote the goals of the youth exchange and develop their competencies. This was also a great opportunity for participants with fewer opportunities who don't have a daily chance to use a professional camera or editing programs to develop their digital skills. Additionally, through cinema, we increased a sense of initiative, innovation, and entrepreneurship, encouraged self-empowerment, enhanced intercultural awareness, and empowered participants to be more active in their society. The concrete objectives of the project were: to understand how and why war happens in intercultural settings and learn how to achieve peaceful conflict resolution; to learn how to take action in a democratic society; to promote and achieve peace, tolerance, and unity; to understand how films are used to inspire, teach, and impact emotion and opinion in a viewer; to learn basic skills in film creation and create a short movie that promotes the aims of the Youth Exchange
