Objectives

The general goal of the project was to raise environmental awareness and encourage green activities in PwD associations through the activism of young PwD and YW. Education of young PwD and YW on relevant environmental protection topics strengthened competences for advocating positive changes in local communities and encouraged environmental activism. YW were empowered to act towards PwD associations with the aim of changing the paradigm of office business and applying green standards in the work and daily activities of employees. One of the specific goals was to establish international cooperation and peer networking of young PwD through the transmission of good practices, which was achieved through the involvement of youth in the campaigns implementation and the creation of promotional materials, thereby encouraging inclusive volunteering. Also, through the creation of the Handbook of green business of disability associations and video that encourage activism and contribute to the "green office" paradigm, we wanted to provide PwD associations, as well as other organizations, with advocacy tools that will serve as inspiration for further efforts to preserve the environment and promote inclusive action in local communities.

Background

SOIH applied for a project with the aim of actively contribute to the social inclusion of young persons with disabilities (PwD) and Youth workers in combating climate change. New paradigms established by the Sustainable Development Goals, The European Green Deal and The National Development Strategy of the Republic of Croatia 2030 demand that the approach to the management of PwD associations is completely based on the principles of sustainability. By founding the Forum of Youth with Disabilities in 2018 we laid the foundations for an active gathering of youth with different types of disabilities, members of PWD associations. Climate change represents a challenge that the entire society is facing, and young PwD, as part of the world's largest minority, undoubtedly feel its consequences. Through their activities within the Forum, they have shown that they have a strong influence on spreading awareness of the importance of stopping climate change and that they consider as a key topic. Therefore the project was based on the knowledge that, through the education of young PwD and cooperation with partners, we can support the sustainability program, improve the rights of PwD through the green agenda, and help fight the climate crisis.
