In the framework of the “Moving the Body, Transforming the Mind” project we have implemented an international YE mobility focusing on dance that took place in Kunbaracs, Hungary between Aug 23– Sep 3, 2023 (2 travel days) with the participation of 40 young people from Hungary, Portugal, Romania and Lithuania accompanied by 8 group leaders(2/c) and 2 facilitators. Background: The project served as a follow-up to our organization's previously implemented youth mobility initiative, "Our Dances," which proved highly successful. Following an analysis at the level of our target group and partnerships, we determined that the theme of dance resonated well with young people in our communities. Participants from Hungary (Debrecen, Gyula, Ballasagyarmat), Portugal (Cascais region), and Romania (Harghita County), possessing dance experience, expressed a desire to engage in a youth exchange where they could collaborate with peers from other countries, enhancing their communication, teamwork, dance skills, self-presentation ability, self-confidence, social skills, self-expression, cultural understanding, and English communication. These individuals conveyed a need for international engagement in dance and communication activities beyond their local "comfort zone," particularly in the aftermath of the physical inactivity brought about by Covid-19. Consequently, we assembled an international team comprising four organizations, including experienced group leaders and facilitators, aiming to identify and address similar needs among young people. Needs: The project sought to tackle a specific issue identified within our target group, the limited English communication skills of young people, so by participating in an international youth exchange centered around dance, they were motivated to improve their English skills to effectively collaborate with their foreign peers. Notably, many participants hailed from economically and geographically disadvantaged areas, underscoring the significance of Erasmus+ program support in enabling their attendance at such events(there were 20 young people with fewer opportunities participated in the project who faced social, geographical and economical barriers, cultural differences and health problems). Recognizing the surge in obesity and sedentary behaviors over the past years, mainly due to sanitary restrictions, our goal was to advocate dance as an enjoyable and healthful activity for participants. Through consultations with our target group, we identified specific needs and expectations for this project, including practicing dance in an intercultural context, improving various skills, communicating in English, and promoting non-verbal communication through dance and body language. Meeting similarly oriented young people for potential future collaborations, as well as ensuring the inclusion of all social groups in the international project, were also key aspirations. Sustained by the above mentioned needs and expectations the objectives of the project were determined, as follows: O1: Connected 40 young people from Hungary, Romania, Portugal, and Lithuania in a youth exchange, improving their communication and dance skills by the end of the mobility. O2: Improved cultural understanding and communication in English for 40 young people from Hungary, Romania, Portugal, and Lithuania in a safe, intercultural, non-formal learning environment by the end of the mobility. The project additionally aimed to promote dancing as a healthy and creative activity, addressing sedentary lifestyles and obesity, and ensuring the inclusion of all social groups in the international project. The project was closely aligned with the objectives of the Erasmus+ programme and Youth Exchanges in the following ways: -The project contributed to the objective of active citizenship and social inclusion as outlined in The Resolution on the EU Youth Strategy 2019-2027. It actively included young people with fewer opportunities, offering a non-formal learning program where they acquired key competences essential for their societal integration. - By actively including young people with fewer opportunities in transnational projects, the project addressed The Inclusion and Diversity Strategy. It emphasized diversity within the project and promoted the goals of the Erasmus+ programme. - The project closely linked to the aims of Youth Exchanges, particularly in fostering intercultural dialogue, promoting a sense of being European, and developing skills and positive attitudes among young participants. It actively worked towards breaking down prejudices and stereotypes through peer learning, teamwork, and fostering collaboration among young people from Hungary, Romania, Portugal, and Lithuania, all working towards a common goal.
