Objectives

"Flow with your Elements" was aimed at supporting youth workers who faced a high risk of burnout. It focused on developing their ETS and digital skills through two 10-day residential learning activities and participation in the SALTO HOP online resilience course, alongside extended mentoring over a 12-month collaboration. The development of competencies was ensured in various ways, including two residential courses that utilized the Five Elements methodological tools, an online resilience course to foster and develop social-cognitive (ETS) and digital skills, and beyond that, a set of well-being skills crucial for combating burnout. This initiative targeted youth and social workers who were under significant stress either because of their demanding work environments or due to the pressures brought about by global crises and the aftermath of the pandemic. The objectives were to support the recognition of well-being improvements achieved at both an individual and professional level, thereby enhancing the self-confidence of youth workers and their young clients, and to acknowledge and promote the positive impacts of resilience within the non-formal learning and youth work context. The competence development of youth workers resulted in personal resilience shields, comprising practices and guidelines to maintain a balanced life and prevent burnout, a 1-2 day well-being workshop curriculum for youth workers, a complete learning cycle based on ETS competence self-assessment, on-the-job workshop experiences, best practice exchanges, tool fairs on well-being, various national and international dissemination events through online workshops, and the participation of 56 youth workers in a long-term blended learning event. The project also addressed social inclusion, focusing on youth workers who were at a high risk of burnout due to working with young people from disadvantaged backgrounds or experiencing increased stress from global crises and pandemics. These workers, often underappreciated in terms of the importance of their work and salary, with a high turnover rate, were provided with new tools to improve their mental and physical health and overall well-being. They also gained new methods of non-formal learning, such as online and blended learning. The project introduced youth workers to the Five Element tools, including coaching, chi kung, and mindfulness, representing an innovative approach in youth work to enhance well-being competence development.
