Objectives

We created our program through continuous consultation with young people, in agreement with them and together, so it is completely based on their needs and meets what they themselves want to achieve in their cities since both associations coordinate youth organizations that are in the given city - Szatmárnémeti and Nyíregyháza - represent its young people. In our project, we would like to continue a project we started in 2021, in which young people from Nyíregyháza and Szatmár created a joint youth strategy, all based on a survey and inquiry conducted in the 2 cities. Since a 50-question survey involving 150 to 150 young people was carried out in both Nyíregyháza and Szatmárnémeti, we have a realistic picture of how young people see their cities, what demands they have for culture, sports, spending free time, but also in the field of environmental protection, risk-taking behavior, work, and family. As one of the most important parts of our program, we managed to set up the Nyíregyháza-Szatmárnémeti Youth Council (NYISZAT), which will coordinate the youth cooperation between the two cities in the future, but we also assign an important role to this organization in our current project. Since the structured dialogue between the young people and the decision-makers in both cities is very good, we would like to continue on the path we have already started and involve and channel the young people even more in the issues affecting their everyday lives. That is why, in addition to the 3 mobility activities implemented in our previous project, we also organized 2 others in order to ensure further progress, so it was raised at our July meeting that so-called participation or community budget should be launched in both cities, which would specifically focus on youth projects. During our 18-month project, young people can see a city's budget and, in addition to all this, they also get in touch with financial awareness during a training session, which is preceded by a workshop, so that the start of the project is as smooth as possible. We will advertise the possibility of participatory or community budgeting in both cities at forums and meetings, but of course also on the social media channels used by young people. NYISZAT will also participate in the selection of the received proposals and comments, together with the decision-makers, and the winning projects and ideas will be presented at a joint youth conference, where the results of the project will also be presented to the public. In our project, we want to implement 5 mobility activities, which are all built on each other. The project is, therefore: providing opportunities for young people to participate in civil society and to learn how to do so, creating opportunities for young people to take a role not only in their own everyday life, but also in democratic life, and thus to realize the meaningful civic, economic, social, cultural and political participation of young people - and especially those with fewer opportunities - as well as the creation of connections between young people and decision-makers at local, regional, national and transnational levels. During the program, although it may seem that projects and their brainstorming are carried out separately in the 2 cities, there is still a strong connection between the involved cities (Nyíregyháza and Szatmárnémeti), because due to being twin cities, the young people can also apply for joint projects of the two cities, which young people implement together in Szatmárnémeti and Nyíregyháza, Szatmár county in Romania and Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg county in Hungary. Thus, in addition to structured dialogue and active citizenship, the project also strengthens the transnational role, which makes the program even more European, multicultural, multilingual (Hungarian, Romanian, English), and at the same time solidarity by involving those with fewer opportunities.
