Objectives

The partnership conducted a smaller-scale survey with participants in each country to explore their needs for this project, the results revealed that 78.6% wanted to learn about different simple healthy food preservation techniques, creative cooking skills, and other EU cultures. For youth with Fewer opportunities FO, their need was to be able to participate in an Erasmus+ project for the first time. On the other hand needs of organizations involved in this project were to promote healthy lifestyle practices that reduce food waste in link with United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 13. Also, encourage youths to support their communities' local Farmers and local economy. What we wanted to achieve with this project "Simple Healthy Meals" was to bring more youngsters with fewer opportunities including those with financial difficulties, Asylum seekers, mental health difficulties, refugees, and those living in isolated & disadvantaged rural areas among others into the Erasmus+ field (We are happy we gave opportunities to undocumented youths from Millstreet co.Cork, Mallow co.Cork, Mosney past Dublin & Monastraven co. KildareDirect provision centers). The project also gave the opportunity to Ireland newcomers, those who cannot travel, and the undocumented the chance to participate in an EU Youth Exchange(YE). This comes as the result of our previous YEs' success, The youth with FO who cannot travel (asylum seekers, refugees, etc.) due to their residential status in Ireland asked us if they wanted to attend an Eramus+ (E+) YE and learn more about other EU cultures and make friends since they cannot travel(which is in line with Erasmus+2021-2027 Priorities of the Erasmus+ Programme Inclusion and Diversity. The E+ Programme seeks to promote equal opportunities and access, inclusion, diversity, and fairness across all its actions). The concept of this project was an initiative of young people by young people for young people. Youths from diverse backgrounds (those with fewer opportunities, financial difficulties, refugees, asylum seekers, and those living in isolated & disadvantaged rural areas among others) participated in developing this project. Simple Healthy Meals Erasmus+ Youth Exchange was in alignment with the EU Youth Goals objectives 2019-2027, United Nations Sustainable Development Goals "SDGs", specifically SDGs 3: good health and well-being, SDGs 12: responsible consumption and production, and SDGs 13: Climate Change. With this project, we aimed to promote youth-led, youth-centered non-formal education and strengthen the quality of our youth work, and the work of our partners. With this YE, we also aimed to equip our participants with a useful healthy lifestyle such as cooking and reducing food waste in our daily life. Additionally, this YE also aimed to give opportunities to participants to learn sustainable practices such as separating rubbish (recycled materials & organic wastes). Through this project, the objectives were: 1. Cross-cultural cuisine learning and dialogue between the participants from different countries, with a view to promoting valuable nutritious diet information 2. To increase young people's ‘knowledge about different simple healthy food, creative cooking skills, and culture; 3. To unite young people from different backgrounds, nations, cuisines, and cultures to exhibit their food at the local Farmer's Market 4. To learn how to prevent food wastage, respect other national cuisines, and break stereotypes through conducting an evaluation and discussion with young people from other countries; 5. To promote good neighborly relations between the EU Members and the non-EU States and to provide space for friendship and strong relationships through art and culture. 6. To equip young people with life skills that will save them money, support their local economy, and local farmers: organic farmers, and put money into their local community while maintaining healthy cooking habits. 7. To promote “Erasmus +” and its opportunities to young people and locals through a youth-led awareness campaign that promotes essential healthy lifestyle practices that link with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. We wanted to achieve a change of behavior non-formally and raise awareness among participants about their responsibilities to combat climate change by reducing food wastage behavior, promoting simple cooking habits and confidence amongst youth in order to foster a healthy lifestyle and reduce prejudice Together with our participants, we wanted to create a healthy simple meals booklet for secondary schools and create a TikTok Challenge about simple cooking for EU youngsters. The YE was held at the Faith Mission, Bandon Co.CORK from 13 to 21 August 2023 including travel days had 56 participants from Georgia, Spain, Italy, and Ireland. 14 participants per country (12 youth aged 16 to 18 and two youth leaders above 18 Years old) as intended.
