Objectives

What we (young people) wanted to achieve by implementing this Erasmus+ 2021-2027 Youth Exchange: "Eco Warrior Adventure" in Tbilisi, Georgia was to bring together 32 participants (28 youths aged 14-17 & 4 youth leaders) from EU & non-EU countries (Ireland & Georgia), to exchange their knowledge about environmental problems in their home countries and share ideas on how to protect their nature, and their health and reduce pollution by recycling, connecting in nature with ecological outdoor activities also how to convert waste materials into new products to prevent waste of potentially useful materials, reduce the consumption of fresh raw materials, reduce energy usage, reduce air pollution and water pollution. In implementing this project we also wanted to give undocumented Georgian youths (those who cannot travel due to lack of travel documents: and passports) and others due to their residential status were given the opportunity to attend this YE. We are happy that this aspect supports the Erasmus+2021-2027 Inclusion and Diversity priorities. The project objectives were: - To share opinions, approaches, and experiences on environmental situations and issues among participating countries and ways to solve environmental problems with eco-friendly & sustainable practices to use in daily life. - To equip the participants with the necessary skills, knowledge, and attitudes on the inclusion of young people in activities, which are connected to environmental issues empowering them in active citizenship and taking responsibility in their countries. - To raise awareness about recycling through artistic activities and workshops among young people. - To promote creativity and involvement of young people in civil life through promoting “Erasmus +” opportunities. - To promote nature-based outdoor activities that connect youth with nature. From the point of view of participants organizations: - To share experiences and examples of good/bad practices by non-formal educational methods and learn from each other. The concept of this project is initiated by young people for young people including those from diverse backgrounds (those with fewer opportunities, financial difficulties, refugees, migrants, and those living in disadvantaged rural areas) have participated in developing this project. They met on a Youth Exchange on Zoom during Covid-19 in 2021. Their rationale was " We all are living on Earth and the Climate change is impossible to ignore it's necessary to treat our planet more gently, showing young people that an ecological attitude can be very beneficial not only to Earth but also to the present & future of humanity. One youth said, "... young people normally spent less time in nature, Covid-19 restrictions made it worst, there is a need for us youth to connect with nature and learn how to preserve it...". A focus group with our 28 youth club members revealed that the majority of youth will like to learn their responsibilities & sustainable practices to use in their daily lives to reduce the impact of Climate Change on our Planet". This project was in line with United Nations Sustainable Developmental Goals 3, 11 & 13, the Georgian's 2030 Climate Change Strategy, the Irish Strategy on Children & Young People's Participation in Decision-making (2015–2020), Erasmus+2021-2027 priorities: Fight Against Climate Change, & EU Youth Goals 1, 4,10 & 11 as part of EU Youth Strategies 2019-2027. Now why, youths choose Tbilisi, Georgia: Upon consultation, 95.2% of young people want this Youth exchange to be hosted in Tbilisi, Georgia because: -Hosting a youth exchange in Ireland is now a huge challenge due to the current accommodation crisis post-Covid-19 and inflation "Ireland is now the most expensive country in Europe(www.irishexaminer.com/news/arid-40903094.html#:~:text=The%20latest%20EU%20figures%20are,40%25%20above%20the%20EU%20average). -The difficulty/uncertainty in getting Irish visas for the Georgian team. All youth who initiated the idea of this project decided to host the exchange in Tbilisi, Georgia. -Outdoor activities in nature in Ireland can be a challenge due to the unpredictable Irish weather but Georgia weather will be ideal plus we will have the use of Tbilisi National Park (river and wood) ideal for outdoor youth-led activities using a Leave No Trace Principles. -Based on our SurveyMonkeys.com; 98% of our youngsters including those with fewer opportunities (migrants, those with financial obstacles, etc...) from Ireland who will take part in this project never had the opportunity to travel abroad, they had never had the opportunity to take part in international projects and communicate with someone from another cultural background. At the end of the project, Fear, Expectations, and Contributions were reviewed & all were met.
