The main goal of implementing this project is to create environmental awareness among young people, who are the future generations that have to preserve the planet, a planet that is in decline precisely because of the ignorance and greed of human beings. Ensuring that young people have an active voice in the debate and work to protect the environment is fundamental and their role is preponderant to generate an integral and sustainable development of societies. If one does not start from a basis of equality in terms of knowledge, these parts of society cannot be expected to solve a problem about which they have no information. This problem is global and therefore affects us all and ignorance does not make you escape from it. That is why projects such as this one are vital to disseminate accurate information. Apart from the environmental awareness issue, this project is really interesting because the target group is the young people living in the villages, who are usually less taken into account by the institutions. While it is true that in a globalized world like the one we live in, they can access all kinds of information through the Internet, it is crucial that they know information contrasted with empirical data, provided by trained people like those who will be presented in some of the activities. In this way they will know first hand the situation in which we find ourselves as well as they will be taught practices that they can perform in their daily lives to mitigate the problem. This youth exchange is expected to share knowledge about the environment and best practices among the participants during the project, which they can then adopt at home and influence their local communities. The aim is to raise the environmental awareness of rural youth at the local and European level, through non-formal education. Following the project, it is hoped that these participants will be able to form an influential network of diverse change-makers, united by a passion for sustainability to lead transformative action.
