The O.E.D.Y.P.U.S. training course lasted 8 days and took place in Palermo (Italy) from the 8th to the 15th of October 2023. A diverse group of 23 youth workers from different ages coming from 8 countries (Italy, Greece, Bulgaria, Turkey, Romania, Slovakia, Portugal and Lithuania) and 5 trainers / group leaders participated. Nowadays in Europe, inclusion, social exclusion, social distancing and post-pandemic stress disorders are buzz words and the main intention of the project has been to tackle social, economic, educational and geographical exclusion -caused and/or exacerbated by Covid-19- thanks to performing arts and their universal power of putting people together in order to contrast youngsters’ isolation and post pandemic youth discomfort. Moreover, the project addressed the theme of European awareness through the meeting of participants from very different countries. In these days, inclusion and solidarity are very important. Reflecting on Oedipus tragedy and the plague of Thebes, this training course wanted to propose a new vision of Oedipus’ drama, comparing the plague and the Covid-19 pandemic during our times, and its implications in the mental and psychological well-being of youngsters today. The social distancing caused by pandemic of Covid-19 and the social exclusion of Oedipus from Thebes were compared and discussed, finding a chance of a resolution in the human being. This was the background of this youth workers mobility and the actual social and historical context guided us in shaping it. The OBJECTIVES of the Training Course O.E.D.Y.P.U.S. were: - to develop participants’ awareness on social exclusion through non-formal learning methods namely theatre, music, dance and creative/non-formal activities, so to tackle youngsters’ isolation; - to help participants’ think about a more inclusive Europe and to take proactive action at local level, developing their understanding and experience of European citizenship; - to foster participants’ sense of identity as individuals and European citizens through intercultural learning processes; - to celebrate the creativity of youth workers through the staging of Oedipus’ classic drama, and disseminate the results to other youth workers and the local community.
