An ecovillage is an intentional or traditional community consciously designed through locally owned, participatory processes to regenerate social and natural environments. The 4 dimensions of sustainability (ecology, economy, social and cultural) are integrated into a holistic approach. They serve as training & research centers offering various education programs in sustainable development and non-formal learning activities through the immersion experience of sharing their lifestyle. This promotes active citizenship, entrepreneurial thinking, creativity and solution-oriented approaches. They value respect for diversity, regeneration and sustainability, social justice, equality and equity, integrity and transparency. We firmly believed it was essential for young people to experience these values & attitudes to be equipped for the challenges of our societies today. The project aim was to increase the QUALITY and QUANTITY of SUSTAINABILITY YOUTH PROJECTS in ecovillages and other sustainability initiatives through empowering youth workers. In particular: - Develop knowledge of environmental and social issues at the local and global level so they can transfer this to young people; - Share critical concepts and principles related to sustainability; - Gain understanding and skills on how to support young people through 3 different levels: the heart (enablement), hands (enactment) and head (engagement). We wished to contribute to societal changes by sharing our experiences, connecting to mobilized young people and reaching out to those not yet giving sustainability much thought.
