Objectives

Unhealthy lifestyles such as poor diet, smoking and lack of physical activity, have a negative impact on people and especially youth. Latvia is 'on course' to meet one targets for maternal, infant and young child nutrition (MIYCN). No progress has been made towards achieving the target of reducing anaemia among women of reproductive age, with 21.6% of women aged 15 to 49 years now affected. Meanwhile, Latvia is 'on course' for the low birth weight target, with 4.5% of infants having a low weight at birth. There is insufficient data to assess the progress that Latvia has made towards achieving the exclusive breastfeeding target, nor is there adequate prevalence data. Similarly, there is insufficient prevalence data or data to assess the progress that Latvia has made towards achieving the target for stunting. There is also insufficient data to assess the progress that Latvia has made towards achieving the target for wasting, nor is there adequate prevalence data. There is inadequate prevalence data to show the proportion of children under 5 years of age who are overweight and there is insufficient data available to assess whether Latvia is on course to prevent the figure from increasing. Latvia has shown limited progress towards achieving the diet-related non-communicable disease (NCD) targets. The country has shown no progress towards achieving the target for obesity, with an estimated 26.8% of adult (aged 18 years and over) women and 23.9% of adult men living with obesity. Latvia's obesity prevalence is higher than the regional average of 25.3% for women but is lower than the regional average of 24.9% for men. At the same time, diabetes is estimated to affect 6.9% of adult women and 8.6% of adult men. With this project, we want to emphasize the importance of a healthy lifestyle amongst young people and want to help them to make healthy choices. When talking about healthy lifestyles, many people are thinking about regular physical activities, but for a healthy life we need to look holistically and physical activity is not enough, people also need to care about mental health, proper hygiene, sleep and even internet use (which also can bring health problems). This will help to improve the quality of life, decrease the risks of deaths and illnesses. This project aims to promote healthy lifestyles which can help young people to appreciate the pleasures of life while safeguarding their own health. The program will have 2 parts. The first part of the project will be more theoretical and will aim to increase the awareness of participants about the following topics: 1. What it means to have a healthy lifestyle and which are its benefits not only for the individual but also for a community. 2. How the Internet affects human body and motivation. 3.Which are the appropriate behaviors that we need in order to have a healthy lifestyle? 4. Which are the optimal ratio of health and quality of life? 5. What exactly do we need to have a healthy life? The second part of the project will be more practical and will include exercise and sport. During the project participants from different countries, will improve their team-working, communication skills while learning a lot of new information from other participants about methods and ways to reach a healthy lifestyle, will develop a strong tendency to change some of their unhealthy behaviours. Perhaps all people want to be healthy and young, but not all of them follow the rules of the healthy lifestyle, many people didn't even know how to live healthily, how to start and how to behave. Besides all the points mentioned above, each country has its own standards of a healthy lifestyle, their own national policies, and strategies. So, next goal of the project is to find out new public policy measures that promote a healthy lifestyle in their societies. The short-term aim of this project is to identify all the benefits of a healthy lifestyle, to motivate young people to adopt healthy lifestyle rules and to maintain a good state of health. The long-term aims are to preserve the knowledge and skills they have gained during the project in future. We expect that the experience and information gained during the project will be shared by participants with their friends and relatives thus it will be useful not only for participants but also for their communities. For this reason, we developed the following specific objectives: (a) To explore the concept of healthy lifestyle (b)To discuss current issues related to the nutrition and sports through sharing good practices and experiences related to prevention of diseases caused by lack of exercise and poor eating habits. (c)To provide participants with theoretical and practical opportunities to improve their physical and health competences; (d) To foster young people to become peer educators and to create a network to work as multipliers for healthy lifestyle (e) To promote non-formal education and Erasmus+ Programme as a support tool
