Objectives

Cultural diversity issues are a source of prejudice, misunderstanding as well as stereotyping and discrimination. Since 2021 when the Russian-Ukrainian war escalated, according to the ‘Eurobarometer’ immigration is at the top of the most frequently cited topics at EU level. With 38% (+14 points) of those polled citing it as such, this issue is now way ahead of the economic situation (27%, -6 points), unemployment (24%, -5 points) and the Member States public finances (23%, -2 points). It was the number one most frequently cited concern in 20 Member States, reaching peaks in Poland (65%) and Germany (55%). Each partner implemented local researches among their young people especially among approx. 500 youth with refugee and migrants’ background, minority and Roma background through online and offline questionnaires, among approx.. 300 colleagues and youth workers, teachers, social workers locally through surveys and focus group discussions and interviews with approx. 50 local decision makers between June and September 2022. Based on our local researches, we have identified the following needs: - Lack of awareness about cultural diversity issues in Europe among young people, and numerous stereotypes, prejudice and xenophobic attitudes resulting from it; - Lack of easy-to-use, suitable and adaptable youth work tools that can be both relevant in local context but also applied across borders and cultures; - Lack of youth work competences and tools among youth workers that could reinforce their youth work capacities and encourage young people to act on cultural diversity issues; In order to address those issues, we propose the following activities: - A training course for youth workers; - Promoting cultural diversity and integration of young people with different cultural backgrounds especially young refugees, migrants, minorities and Roma people using the #bettertogether hashtag, both online and on social networks and offline in all partner countries; this will be organised and disseminated by partners and participants of the course; - A series of joint follow-up activities at cross-national level, including youth exchanges, youth worker mobility projects as well as local voluntary youth activities projects. The overall aim of the project is to support and equip youth workers with knowledge, key competences and employable tools that are needed to act as inclusive agents in their local communities and enhance the human and socio-professional integration of young people with different cultural backgrounds especially young refugees, migrants, minorities and Roma people. S.M.A.R.T. objectives of the training course are: - To strengthen the knowledge, key competences and employable tools of 44 youth workers who work with and for young people with different cultural background especially young refugees, migrants, minorities and Roma people in using innovative approaches to deal with arrival assistance and trauma, development of interpersonal skills, active participation, orientation and social inclusion in EU countries. - To empower the role of 44 youth workers as positive agents for social change and inclusive growth in multicultural communities in the EU countries. - To share good practices related to youth work, social inclusion and active participation of young people with different cultural background especially young refugees, migrants, minorities and Roma people in EU countries. - To increase transnational cooperation, exchange of good practices and capacity building between 11 organizations and 44 youth workers that are active in the field of migration, youth and social inclusion in EU countries. - To develop an informal network of youth workers promoting follow up projects and initiatives at both local and European level. - To explore possible future cooperation and partnership among the members of consortium according to the proposal of the new Erasmus+ programme in order to sustain the high-quality work with culturally diverse young people.
