Crafts can create a safe space for participant’s distress, showcase and share creativity, intellectual capacity, build teams, create needed resources. It’s relieving barriers, giving socially excluded youth a safe place to go to discuss, understand and assess their needs and assist them to become active citizens. The project will give youths a voice as they learn to express themselves using crafts. We want to address a number of key issues affecting youth, namely stress and desire for self-expression and critical thinking. We want to build assertiveness skills, for the vulnerable youth it can be self-soothing and self-care tool. The project will address creativity issues in the participants where they’ll think outside the box, designing and working on the crafts. We want to address issue of active citizenship among the participants where they’ll take active stand in issues affecting them and the communities. The objectives of the project are to empower youth to use crafts for daily living, train youth workers in using crafts as a tool of empowerment to marginalized and vulnerable youth. We want to address the issue of capacity building in youth workers, with skills that will enable them to help vulnerable youth with practical hands-on skills that give them a start in life.
