Objectives

This project aims to integrate partners from seven different countries, to implement activities that will encourage a healthy lifestyle, including sports as a means of inclusion. Surely, we all know that having a healthy lifestyle brings extraordinary benefits. By adhering to the EU Youth Strategy, it is evidently shown the importance of promoting sports and healthy lifestyle, together with encouraging mental health. Hence, it will result into having a direct effect on mitigating eating disorders, addictions and improving education on nutrition for youths by raising more awareness. This project will indirectly help to encourage the development of soft skills amongst youth, such as learning how to work in a team, communication abilities and learn more about different cultures. Consequently, sport promotes social inclusion if used as an educational tool. Only some people realise that it also keeps you attentive throughout the day and your mood steady. Exercise is also the most important part of a plan to manage stress. People who eat mostly junk food have highs and lows in their energy level, which harms their ability to control stress and build a strong, healthy body. Doing exercise and eating a balanced diet is a crucial factor between health and sickness. As a matter of fact, being overweight is linked with the onset of major chronic diseases and complications in children and adults. Thus, close monitoring and acting proactive on timely preventive measures, will be an effective approach to implement such project. Moreover, the World Health Organization has acknowledged that physical education is also imperative for increasing awareness of physical activity from a young age. Physical education can motivate more youth to develop a passion for fitness, which will result in promoting regular physical activity and a good dietary pattern. Adolescence is a critical time when young people start to make decisions on their own. Teenagers start to form beliefs and pick up habits that will stay with them for the rest of their lives. Consequently, it is essential for youth to practice healthy lifestyle behaviours at an early age and know the consequences of positive and negative behaviours. Such practices highlight the need for self-discipline to live a healthy and active life. Nevertheless, healthy eating and exercise habits are both equally important and should be thought as a pair. Studies by WHO revealed that people who are involved in sport activities on a regular basis have a lower risk of high blood pressure, developing a heart disease, type 2 diabetes, stroke, and other conditions. Research shows that physical activity can also enhance self-esteem, mood, sleeping pattern, as well as mitigating the risk of mental health issues, such as anxiety and clinical depression. Hence, it is clearly exposed that one can also improve the quality of life and the overall well – being of oneself, since it benefits both the body and the mind to be actively involved. In fact, most people notice that they feel healthier over time as physical activity becomes consistent in their everyday routines. Eating habits evolve over time and at this day and age, youths are mostly influenced by many social aspects, depending on trends. A lack of active role models is another challenge. To take the best outcome of this exchange, sharing of different ideas and what work’s best for youths by youths themselves is influential. This highlights the importance of informing the public about having a healthy lifestyle, an activity that will be tackled through this project. Thus, it is quite a complex manner to shape the individual’s dietary patterns. Encouraging a healthy food environment requires various stakeholders from different sectors to brainstorm ideas, including the cooperation of government, and private entities. It is also important to note the impact that the Covid-19 pandemic has had on peoples health especially that of young people. This lockdowns that were implemented during the pandemic significantly restricted the physical and sports related that most young people could take part in. This was accompanied by poor eating habits by many people further exasperating the health situation. The pandemic also limited the implementation of such exchanges which reduced such interaction. This project will also look to tackle the issue of obesity which is a particular challenge in countries like Malta and has become worst in recent years. This project will look to achieve the following objectives: - To bring together 39 youths from 7 different countries and learn more about how to live a healthy lifestyle, - To create a more inclusive environment for persons with disabilities and cultures through 1 youth exchange, - To learn more about how to live a more healthy lifestyle, - To enable the participating organisations to strengthen their professional relationship - with the prospect that they continue to work together on future initiatives
