Objectives

The fundamental objective of the European Union is to practice equality and respect for its diversity. The EU needs to cope with an increasingly globalizing world as a melting pot where everybody welcomed. Communities across Europe had opened their doors to welcome over four million refugees fleeing the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Reports by Euro-Med Monitor's team and other human rights agencies had shown that Black, Asian, and Middle Eastern refugees were treated very differently when they arrived at the border in European countries. While racism within EU Member States and at the borders had already been well documented by international NGOs, the recent double standards in treatment and protection given to migrants had been a clear sign of systemic racism across Europe. Since there had been an increasing refugee and migrant issue in our partner countries, we had come up with an idea of using tales as a tool to foster tolerance and empathy. From this point of view, the TALErance youth project had united tales for improving the knowledge, skills, and competences of its participants, partner organizations, and participating communities to contribute to sustainable growth and ensure equity, prosperity, and tolerance in Europe. Our main objective had been to empower 38 participants and 6 organizations directly to use tales as a tool to fight against racism, hate speech, stereotypes, and other forms of discrimination towards refugees and migrants. The EU Youth Strategy had aimed, in particular, to create more and equal opportunities for all young people, support active citizenship, social inclusion, and solidarity of all young people, realize the full potential of youth work and youth centers as a means of inclusion, support the development of intercultural awareness, and combat racism. At this point, our project had offered quality youth work in the field of social inclusion through European values, enabling participants to take active roles in their communities and become active citizens to spread tolerance towards migrants and refugees.
